Hair Masterclass #7: How to use a conditioning treatment the correct way

August 18th, 2015

Why use a hair conditioning treatment? Well, it’s one of the best ways to achieve healthy, gorgeous looking hair in between cuts! Often we just slap on a treatment without taking care to apply it properly – so at The Headmistress we have put together a ‘how to’ list of what to consider when applying a hair conditioning mask.

1/ Use a hair mask at least once a week to ensure you’re giving your hair the moisture it needs.

2/ Your hair should not be greasy afterwards – if it is, you are most likely using one too heavy for your hair type, so look for one specific to your hair (i.e. fine, curly etc..) and that should lead to better results.

3/ Also, remember that a little product goes a long way, you don’t need to go overboard with the application.

4/ Always comb the product through your hair using a wide tooth comb to ensure every last spot is covered before you let it sit.

5/ Try to concentrate on the ends. Your ends are the most fragile part of your hair and are most likely the part that needs the most loving!

6/ Shampoo your hair.

7/ Towel dry your hair and apply the mask through your hair, whilst focusing on the ends. Using a wide tooth comb, ensure that all of your hair is covered and the product is distributed evenly.

8/ You can put your hair in a towel turban, shower cap etc.. to keep it out of the way.

9/ Wait 15 minutes to an hour, or you can even sleep with the mask still in.

10/ Rinse the mask thoroughly from your hair.

11/ Dry and style as usual.
